Da Capo Chamber Players perform Gregor’s Dream, scored for amplified piano trio and electronics, as part of their 50th Anniversary Season!
Gregor’s Dream, for amplified piano trio and stereo electronics, was commissioned by the Atar Trio for their project Dream within a Dream. It was inspired by Kafka’s Metamorphosis, where Gregor Samsa wakes from an anxious dream to find himself transformed into a bug. I fashioned the electronics from field recordings shared by bioacousticians Martin Brandstetter, Jayne Yack and Amanada Lindeman. Fear of the ‘other’ permeates the tale and is a crucial reminder in our tribalistic times. The Atar Trio toured Gregor’s Dream in America and Israel, while other performances include those at the Aspen Music Festival, the International Computer Music Festival in Daegu KOR, and the at Trinity Chapel, Trinity College Dublin where it was performed by the Kirkos Ensemble on a program of the IAWM.
