Kassia at the Staunton Music Festival

FreeKassia, scored for clarinet, harp and string quintet will be performed on a program called Schola Cantorum featuring choral music acorss the centuries by composers from Thomas Tallis to J.S. Bach. Mozart and Alan Blank, as well as my Kassia. Commissioned by the Pittsburgh-based ensemble of that name, it was inspired by their namesake, Kassia. She was a 9th’-Century Abbess, poet and hymnographer and likely the first woman for whom some of her original music is extent. To learn more, and hear it, visit the composition page here.
