Event Details

Pianist Joan Mizrahi performs CHAI VARIATIONS ON ELIAHU HANAVI at the Lyceum in Alexandria, VA. This piece is a set of 18 variations on the first section of the beautiful melody often sung at the close of the Sabbath. The name 'Chai' means for 'living' in Hebrew, and also stands for the number 18. I chose to create 18 variations, with the order left to the performer, focusing on the collaborative aspect between performer and composer. Chai Variations on Eliahu HaNavi has been recorded by pianist MARY KATHLEEN ERNST, and a new recording by NATHAN CARTERETTE is in process.
