Michigan Technological University in collaboration with the Great Lakes Research Center commissioned Terra Infirma, scored for septet (sop sax, trpt, trb, vn, vla, vc, perc) and electronics. The Great Lakes are a crucial source of water as well as critical habitat for a vast array of fauna, but both the lakes themselves and the creatures that depend on them are suffering from the myriad contributors to climate change. Many of the animals are threatened as are the vast number of people living in this region. I have drawn on field recordings of the lakes as well as many of the fauna, especially those in immediate or near-term danger. I am indebted to many naturalists and institutions such as the outstanding Macaulay Library at Cornell University. It was premiered on 10/11/22.
