Program Note:
The God of Glory, for SATB chorus, is a setting of excerpts from verses 3-11 of Psalm 29. I wish to thank Michael Kubovy for his assistance with the literal translation of the Hebrew. Psalm 29 is about the power, majesty, and eternal nature of God. This setting for SATB chorus divisi was inspired by the elements of strength and power, manifest in such images as the leaping of mountains, the blades of fire as well as the calm quality of the gift of peace. The chorus frequently divides into six to eight voices as I sought to sonically respond to these images. The Wisconsin Chamber Choir, conducted by Robert Gehrenbeck gave the world premiere on 6/3/12. The New Amsterdam Singers, directed by  Clara Longstreth, gave the New York premiere on 12/07/12 on their program Comfort and Joy.  –JS
